Chelsea has secured their first signing for the 2024 summer transfer window with the announcement of Fulham centre-back, Tosin Adarabioyo.

The decision to sign Adarabioyo comes as Chelsea prepares for the departure of 39-year-old Thiago Silva, who is returning to his home team, Fluminense.

Adarabioyo’s arrival at Stamford Bridge also opens the door for the potential departure of academy graduate Trevoh Chalobah, who has caught the eye of Manchester United.

In addition to filling the gap left by Silva, Chelsea sees Adarabioyo as a valuable asset in converting set-pieces due to his towering 6ft 5 inches height.

The 26-year-old Nigerian-born British defender opted for Chelsea over Newcastle United, enticed by the opportunity to compete in Europe, particularly the Europa Conference League, next season. He has been assured of a significant role at the club.

Adarabioyo’s prior connection with Chelsea’s new coach, Enzo Maresca, during their time at Manchester City’s football academy, likely influenced his decision.

The former England under-19 international, who remains eligible to play for the Super Eagles of Nigeria, penned a four-year contract with Chelsea. His move to the club is scheduled for July 1, 2024, immediately following the expiration of his contract with Fulham.

Reflecting on his signing, Adarabioyo expressed his excitement, stating, “Chelsea is a huge club, and this is a full-circle moment for me. I was born three miles away from Stamford Bridge and made my professional debut there. I’m very excited and looking forward to helping push the club in the direction we want to go.”
