Ivory Coast and Guinea are sending specially chartered planes to Tunisia to return hundreds of their citizens.
Both Conakry and Yamoussoukro officials expressed concern about Tunisian President Kais Saied’s inflammatory remarks last week.
Mr. Saied claimed that illegal migration was causing “demographic” changes in the country and that those who had entered the country illegally would not be allowed to stay.
He accused them of being behind Tunisia’s rising crime rate.
He also directed Tunisian security forces to take immediate action against undocumented African migrants.
Hundreds of Guineans and Ivorians have sought refuge in their embassies. Some claim to have been physically assaulted.
