Senegal’s government has deployed soldiers throughout the capital, Dakar, as residents prepare for more unrest.
Nine people were killed in clashes between security forces and protesters on Thursday.
It came after opposition politician Ousmane Sonko was convicted of immoral behavior. In his absence, he was sentenced to two years in prison.
Mr. Sonko maintains that the charges are politically motivated in order to prevent him from running in the presidential election next year.
The police have surrounded his home, and the government has blocked some social media sites.
