Ooni of Ife: A Peek into His Unique Fashion and Personal Life
Oba Adeyeye Enitan Babatunde Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife, recently shared some fascinating insights into his personal style and preferences.
In an interview in Lagos, the Ooni discussed his upcoming 50th birthday celebration and revealed intriguing details about his fashion choices. One standout revelation was that he does not wear wristwatches. He explained that time is a divine concept, saying, “Every second counts, so why should I be looking at it every second?” This perspective underscores his deep spiritual connection.
Additionally, the Ooni spoke about his passion for shoemaking, a skill he learned in childhood and continues to practice today. “I design all my shoes till date,” he proudly shared, showcasing his commitment to personal craftsmanship.
A Royal Father’s Birthday Message
In a heartfelt social media post, the Ooni addressed his daughter, Princess Adeola, on her 30th birthday. He reflected on her journey from childhood to adulthood and expressed his pride and gratitude for her life.
“Princess Adeola, Aanuoluwapo, Atutunini, Bamdefe Ogunwusi, Omo Ojaja II. I am truly grateful for the fulfilling life you have lived. May God Almighty continue to be with you in all your endeavors. Amen!” he wrote.
The Ooni reminisced about guiding his daughter through different stages of her life, from emphasizing education and future goals at age 10 to discussing the importance of morals and independence at age 20. Now, as she reaches 30, he playfully urged her to find a husband, acknowledging her grown-woman status.
“Now that you are 30, you are a grown woman. Your father senses that you no longer wish to be advised as independence has finally set in. I talked 10 to you and got your subtle independence behavior in return, I talked 20 to you and still got your near-obvious independence behavior in return. Now I’m talking 30 to a grown woman, so go and bring a husband to daddy o… With love from the throne of Oduduwa.”
This blend of personal insight and affectionate fatherly advice offers a warm glimpse into the life of one of Nigeria’s most prominent traditional rulers.
