Argentine football legend Lionel Messi, currently playing for Inter Miami, recently revealed he has no plans to become a coach once he retires from the sport.
In an interview with football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Messi opened up about his future after football, his outlook on the 2026 World Cup, and his goals with Inter Miami. Reflecting on life after his playing career, the 37-year-old superstar shared, “I wouldn’t like to be a coach. I’m not sure what I’d like to do yet. I focus on enjoying each day, playing, training, and having fun.”
When asked about participating in the 2026 World Cup, Messi was uncertain but hopeful. “Honestly, I don’t know. I hope to end this season strong and have a solid pre-season, which was tough last year with all the traveling,” he explained. “For now, I’m just taking it one day at a time.”
Messi also shared thoughts on his legacy. “Let people remember me however they wish. Winning the World Cup was my biggest dream, something I fought long and hard for,” he expressed. “I’ve been fortunate to win everything with Barcelona, with Argentina, and to have a wonderful life and family. I’m very grateful for it all.”
On his journey with Inter Miami, Messi noted his team’s recent success, adding, “We celebrated our achievement because it was a tough, important milestone, but our real focus is on the MLS title.” He stressed the need for improvement to avoid costly mistakes in the playoffs and acknowledged, “We’re one of the favorites, and other teams respect us.”
Discussing Miami’s ambitions, Messi praised the club’s growth-driven approach. “There are no limits here—that’s the philosophy. The club is committed to becoming great within MLS and possibly on the world stage.”
