Ghanaian actress and entrepreneur Fella Makafui found herself at the center of a police investigation on Tuesday, May 22, over allegations related to illegal drug sales and promotions.
Clearing up initial reports of her arrest, Makafui’s manager, Richmond Amofa Sarpong, told Joy Entertainment that she was invited for questioning, not detained. Sarpong strongly denied that Makafui was selling or promoting unapproved products, explaining that most of the items in question were already approved, while others were still in the process of getting endorsements.
Earlier reports had suggested that Makafui was arrested following an investigation by ISPYGH 247, a documentary filmmaking firm, in collaboration with the Pharmacy Council Ghana. These reports claimed she was detained on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, for illegal activities related to the sale of unregistered drugs and for false advertising.
A six-month surveillance operation, led by investigator Akwasi Koranteng and his team from ISPYGH 247, monitored Fella’s social media posts on platforms like TikTok and Instagram, gathering evidence of her alleged illegal activities. Following this operation, 16 products were confiscated from her shop in Mempeasem. These included items such as Fertility Tea, Butt and Hips Enlargement Syrup, Booty Cream, Hip and Big Butt Tea, and Breast Firming Cream.
Other seized products included Vagina Detox Pearls, Male Sexual Vitality Tea, Spice Herbal Infection Mixture, Yoni Wash Gel, Orgasmic Gel, Weight Gain Syrup, Spice Coded Powder, Tiger Herbal Mixture, and Sweet Drip Honey.
In a statement, investigators noted that Fella admitted most of the products she sold were not registered with the FDA.
This incident comes in the wake of remarks by Medikal, Makafui’s estranged husband, who suggested she had undergone plastic surgery to enhance her body. Medikal claimed Makafui misled the public by attributing her physical changes to the drugs she was promoting.
