In France’s capital, Paris, the trial of Moroccan singer Saad Lamjarred, who is accused of aggravated rape and assault, has begun.
Mr. Lamjarred, well-known in the Arab pop music scene, is accused of raping a French woman in 2016 at a luxury hotel on the Champs-Elysees. He denies the charges.
Mr. Lamjarred’s YouTube channel has over a billion views for one of his music videos. In 2015, Morocco’s King Mohammed VI bestowed the country’s highest national honor upon him. Mr. Lamjarred could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
The decision is expected on Friday.
