Nottingham Forest has added fresh energy to their defense, sealing the signing of Brazilian youngster Jair Cunha from Botafogo.
The 20-year-old has put pen to paper on a five-year deal that will keep him at the City Ground until 2030. Cunha becomes Forest’s second signing from Botafogo this week, following closely behind the arrival of striker Igor Jesus in a £10 million deal.
In a statement on the club’s official channels, Forest confirmed the defender’s long-term commitment and highlighted his recent experience on the global stage. Cunha had just returned from the FIFA Club World Cup, where he played a standout role in Botafogo’s campaign and found the net in their opener against Seattle Sounders.
Before his time at Botafogo, Cunha kicked off his professional career with Brazilian side Santos. He also played a key role in Brazil’s U-20 squad that lifted the South American title earlier this year.
Forest’s Chief Football Officer, Ross Wilson, praised the signing: “Jair is a young player with great potential. He’s shown his quality in Brazil and now takes an exciting step forward with us. We’re thrilled to welcome him to Nottingham.”
With fresh talent and international promise, Cunha looks set to bring flair and determination to Forest’s back line as the club continues to strengthen ahead of the new season.
