The Federal Government has announced that Wednesday, June 12, will be observed as a public holiday in celebration of this year’s Democracy Day. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, extended his congratulations to Nigerians in a statement released on Tuesday by Dr. Aishetu Ndayako, the ministry’s Permanent Secretary.
Tunji-Ojo urged citizens to uphold democratic values, highlighting President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to reforms aimed at revitalizing the economy and enhancing security.
In part, the statement read, “As we commemorate another Democracy Day, let us reflect on the efforts of our founding fathers and strive to keep Nigeria united, secure, peaceful, and indivisible.”
The minister also encouraged Nigerians and friends of Nigeria to acknowledge the progress made and to look forward to a brighter future for the country’s democracy.
Additionally, the government has planned several activities to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Democracy Day, marking a quarter-century of continuous democratic governance. This announcement was made by Abdulhakeem Adeoye, on behalf of the Director of Information and Public Relations in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF).
