Nicki Minaj claims that there is a movement to see her demise and that labels and management companies are paying female rappers to diss her for clout.
During a Stationhead listening event for her single “Red Ruby Da Sleeze,” Nicki spoke with Rah Ali about the state of hip-hop and the “microwaveability” of today’s artists.
“You get better as you rap and write. “And you get better every day,” Nicki said. “But I think the thing is now, because of the…microwaveability of TikTok artists getting deals and Instagram people getting likes or Twitter people…girls’ labels and management companies paying for viral tweets and Nicki diss tweets and all that,” she says.
Nicki, who is launching her own label, believes that the art of lyricism is dying and that comparing her to others who don’t write their own rhymes is unfair.

“It’s almost as if, if I don’t remind them that we’re here to rap, who will?” she went on. “And then, on top of that, don’t ever put me in the same muthafu**in’ sentence. Please do not use my name as an example. You must write your verses, at the end of the story. And I say that with love because I believe that people are now feeling pressure to, I don’t know, do things so quickly.”
It’s unclear whether Nicki was referring to a specific person. She and Latto had a heated Twitter exchange last year in response to the Grammys’ controversial decision to remove “Super Freaky Girl” from the rap category.
During her interview with Rah Ali, Nicki also revealed that “Red Ruby Da Sleeze” is not the official single from her highly anticipated fifth studio album.
“‘Red Ruby,'” says the author. “I dropped it as a teeny-tiny something,” she explained. “Because I know it’s going to go off on tour, and it’s going to go off on y’all. It’s simply rapping. But, obviously, for the album, I need to release my official single. “‘Red Ruby’ is not the album’s official single.”
