According to police, one man has been charged with causing public nuisance in connection with plans to disrupt Britain’s Epsom Derby horse race, while 30 others have been released on bail.
On Saturday, police arrested 31 people, including a protester who was detained after entering the racetrack.
“A total of 39 arrests were made over the course of two days,” said Surrey Police.
“Thirty-one of these arrests were made in connection with planned criminal activity at the Epsom Derby Festival, including two women who were apprehended moments before they were able to enter the track.”
Thirty people have since been released on bail pending further investigation.”
The person charged with causing public nuisance is scheduled to appear in Guildford Magistrates’ Court on Monday, according to police.
“We absolutely support people’s rights to peacefully protest, but we distinguish this from unacceptable criminal behavior,” said Chief Superintendent Clive Davies.
The 244th Epsom Derby was won by Auguste Rodin, who was ridden by Ryan Moore.
The Epsom Derby was postponed last year after six protesters from Animal Rising, then known as Animal Rebellion, entered the course and had to be removed by police.
Animal rights protesters disrupted the Grand National in April, and more than 20 people were arrested at the Scottish Grand National.
