On Wednesday, Zambian footballer Lameck Banda and his Lecce teammate Samuel Umtiti were abused by visiting Lazio fans in Italy’s Serie A. According to the AFP news agency, the game was called off in the second half due to racist taunts.
Umtiti, a France international, was the primary target of the abuse. After winning 2-1, Lecce praised their fans for responding to the abuse by chanting Umtiti’s name.”The racist chants were drowned out by those of encouragement,” the club tweeted.
