Lindiwe Sisulu, the minister of tourism for South Africa, has urged the president to step down. Cyril Ramaphosa is accused of covering up the theft of a sizable sum of money from his property, according to the charges.
The ANC conference is coming up next month, and the president is running for re-election.
Ms. Sisulu, who claims she wants the top position for herself, stated on the BBC’s Newshour show that Mr. Ramaphosa needs to resign because he is holding the entire party hostage. The president, who denies wrongdoing, may be subject to impeachment when parliament debates the matter next week.
