The African Union has warned that the continent is on the verge of becoming a geostrategic battleground for competing major power interests.
Its chairman, Moussa Faki Mahamat, said Africa must resist the consequences of escalating global rivalries, which he claimed threatened to spark a new Cold War.
This year, China, Russia, and the United States have all dispatched top diplomats to Africa.
Ukraine’s foreign minister is currently in the country on a mission.
The chairman’s warning came on the 60th anniversary of the Organization of African Unity, the African Union’s predecessor.
