According to reports, the World Cup host nation of Qatar is putting pressure on FIFA to ban beer sales at the eight World Cup stadiums. Although Qatar rigorously regulates the sale of alcohol, it must be available in the vicinity of stadiums and fan zones, as well as in hotels. One of FIFA’s largest sponsors, Budweiser, was informed on Saturday to move product booths at stadiums to less noticeable places.
According to The Times, FIFA and Budweiser are currently in negotiation as Qatar 2022 wants to go even further. FIFA and Budweiser owner AB InBev have been contacted by the PA news agency for comment.
AB InBev responded to the request to relocate its outlets by telling Sky News that it had been informed of the request on November 12 and was now working with FIFA to find new locations for the concession stores. “We are collaborating with FIFA to give the fans the finest experience possible. Delivering the greatest customer experience we can given the changing conditions is our main priority.
