The Cannes Film Festival is currently in full swing in southern France, and various celebrities have been spotted wearing outrageous outfits as they go from screening to the screening of the latest releases.
The Palme d’Or is the award given to the winning film at the Cannes Film Festival, and it is one of the industry’s highest honors. When compared to the Academy Award for Best Picture or the Oscar for Best Picture, the winners of this award have a much more international slant.
Since the Palme d’Or became a permanent fixture at Cannes in 1955, there has been an incredible variety of films that have won the award.
Best films to win the Palme d’Or
Many big-name films have won the Palme d’Or over the years, including Taxi Driver, which many people consider to be the best. Martin Scorcese and Robert De Niro collaborated on the 1976 film, which starred a taxi driver in New York who becomes enraged by the world around him.
Pulp Fiction is one of the most famous films of all time and a Palme d’Or winner, so Quentin Tarantino has that honor in his resume.
Another 1970s film, Apocalypse Now, is regarded as one of the greatest war films ever made, and it was a well-deserved Palme d’Or winner in 1979.
One of the more recent winners, the South Korean film Parasite, demonstrated the award’s international slant. It is one of the few films to have won both the Palme d’Or and Best Picture at the Academy Awards.
