Singer and songwriter Simi has a powerful message for parents: raise daughters to be self-sufficient. In a recent TikTok video, she emphasized the importance of teaching young women to take charge of their financial futures.
“Please don’t raise your daughters to believe they must rely on someone else to take care of them,” Simi stated. “When someone is spoiling you, it should never be because you can’t spoil yourself. As they treat you well, make sure you’re also treating them well, and show them that you stand strong.”
Simi highlighted that financial independence is essential for security and self-empowerment. “There’s immense security in knowing you can take care of yourself. A woman’s economic strength is about protecting herself and recognizing that she is a complete individual. You deserve good things, and you need to claim your space in the world,” she said.
Acknowledging her own privilege, Simi reflected on her supportive upbringing and the opportunities she received. She called on society to extend support to women who lack similar resources. “I understand I speak from a place of privilege. I grew up surrounded by people who believed in me and offered encouragement. But many women don’t have that advantage. They may face less love, faith, kindness, and opportunities.”
