Pastor Mensa Otabil, General Overseer of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), has urged young people to resist being exploited by politicians in exchange for minimal rewards.
Speaking on the final day of the Greater Works Conference on August 2, 2024, Pastor Otabil referenced Isaiah 42:10 to emphasize God’s promise of renewal and growth.
He advised the youth not to become pawns in political schemes. “Don’t let yourself be used as a foot soldier for someone’s battle just for a little cash or a plate of food,” he said. “You are destined for more—God is doing a new thing in your life. Your worth is greater than that.”
Pastor Otabil warned against accepting small incentives like T-shirts or meager payments for participating in political campaigns, stressing that every individual has inherent value. “You are a world changer, not just a foot soldier. Don’t let anyone exploit you. Your life is precious and more valuable than such trivial rewards.”
He encouraged young people to focus on education and personal development. “Invest in yourself, build your talents, and make wise choices. Don’t waste your potential on fleeting pleasures. God is offering something new and significant for your future.”
The Greater Works Conference, held from July 29 to August 2, 2024, at ICGC Christ Temple East, marked the end of the ICGC’s global fasting and prayer period, the 40 Days of Power. This year’s event highlighted the church’s four decades of faith and community impact.
Pastor Otabil’s message serves as a powerful reminder for the youth to embrace their potential and make meaningful, positive choices, avoiding short-term gains for lasting, fulfilling success.
