Emergency relief is desperately needed for the tens of thousands of people who have been displaced by fighting in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The call comes from the international medical organization Médecins Sans Frontières, which claims that recent days have seen a massive influx of people into the unofficial camps surrounding the eastern city of Goma as a result of the ongoing hostilities between the M23 rebels and the Congolese government.
The camps are already home to thousands of displaced individuals from earlier conflicts.
In the camps, the prevalence of water-borne illnesses and respiratory infections has increased as a result of overcrowding and frequent rain.
The lack of food, according to volunteers in Congo, is a major problem.
