According to his foundation, Congolese gynecologist Denis Mukwege will meet Pope Francis on Friday at the Vatican.
Denis Mukwege, often known as “Dr. Miracle,” is renowned for his skill in reconstructive surgery, which allows him to undo the harm that has been done to raped women.
For his efforts, he and another person shared the 2018 Nobel Peace Prize.
The Pope will travel to the Democratic Republic of the Congo in late January 2023, replacing a previous trip that was postponed in the middle of this year.
Dr. Mukwege visited Pope Francis three years ago and afterward told reporters that they had discussed his vision for a world without rape being used as a weapon of war.
The meeting’s precise agenda is unknown. At least six million people have died in a series of conflicts that have plagued DR Congo since 1996.
