The goal of a campaign group in Malawi is to get men involved in the fight to eradicate violence against women and children.
As part of the UN’s 16 Days of Activism, Men for Gender Equality Now (Megen), a group with 50,000 members, has been holding marches in eight districts across the nation.
According to Marcel Chisi, the organization’s national coordinator, the goal is to dispel societal prejudices about men’s place in society.
The goal, according to him, is to undermine culturally ingrained male privileges that place men in a superior position.
A total of 20,000 men have received peer educator training, and they are each expected to speak with 15 to 20 other men in their homes.
According to Mr. Chisi, “Evidence is overwhelming that our young men are not adequately groomed when they enter into marriage, as is the case with young girls who have numerous platforms where they can share family customs, such as bridal showers, kitchen upgrades, and wardrobe upgrades.
