Cristiano Ronaldo has just made history as the first person to hit one million YouTube subscribers within an hour of launching his channel. On August 21, 2024, Ronaldo, already the most followed person on Instagram and a major presence on X, unveiled his new YouTube channel, UR. Cristiano.
Initially, there were concerns that the video-sharing platform might struggle to handle the revenue generated by Ronaldo’s channel. However, after some negotiations, the platform and the 39-year-old Portuguese footballer reached an agreement, paving the way for the channel’s launch.

Ronaldo’s channel, named UR. Cristiano, quickly captivated fans, with the footballer calling his subscribers “SIUUUbscribers,” a nod to his iconic goal celebration sound. The channel smashed records by reaching one million subscribers in just one hour and 12 million in under 12 hours, surpassing K-Pop star Jennie Kim’s previous record of reaching one million subscribers in seven hours.
To celebrate this achievement, the video-sharing platform presented Ronaldo with a Golden Play Button, which he proudly shared on social media with his family. By 12:08 p.m. Nigerian time, less than 24 hours after the launch, UR. Cristiano had amassed an impressive 18 million subscribers.
In his post, Ronaldo expressed his gratitude, saying, “A gift for my family ❤️ Thank you to all the SIUUUbscribers!”
