A Condor Airlines flight from Frankfurt, Germany, to Mauritius was hit by severe turbulence, injuring at least 17 passengers, two of whom were serious.
Two hours before its scheduled landing in Mauritius, the plane was caught in severe turbulence while flying near Madagascar.
Damage was visible in footage of the plane’s interior.
According to Mauritius police, there were 270 passengers on board Flight DE 2314 at the time of the incident on Thursday.
According to police, the plane made an emergency landing at Mauritius International Airport around 06:40 local time (02:40 GMT).

The injured passengers were evacuated to the nearest hospital by an emergency team.
“The incident occurred in mid-flight near Madagascar, according to preliminary information,” said Inspector Shiva Coothen of the Mauritius police press office.
“The authorities are awaiting the captain’s report to determine the facts of this incident,” he added.
Cyclone Freddy hit Mauritius last week, causing flights to be grounded. In recent weeks, much of southern Africa has experienced heavy rains.
