Professor Kwesi Aning, Director of the Faculty of Academic Affairs and Research at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre, has slammed the Ghana Armed Forces for wreaking havoc on Ashaiman residents.
Following the alleged murder of a military officer in the area, military personnel stormed Ashaiman on Tuesday, March 7, and brutalized anyone they came across.

Prof. Aning described the military’s actions as unfortunate, unconstitutional, and an infringement on the Ghana Police Service’s arresting authority.
The security analyst stated on Citi Prime News that “all crimes are punishable by law, but we cannot take the law into our own hands in punishing those crimes.”
He maintained that, while the killing of military personnel is unacceptable, the military should not have moved to the area in an attempt to apprehend the alleged killers.
“When you attack a person in uniform representing the state of Ghana, you are attacking the state of Ghana. The response mechanism for those who felt offended was to go to the police and report it because it is the Ghana Police Service that should have conducted the investigations, found the evidence, and used it to prosecute those arrested.”
“It is unfortunate that the friends of this young man, who sadly died, have taken the law into their own hands and tarnished Ghana’s reputation,” Prof Aning added.
On Saturday morning, an unknown assailant stabbed to death a 22-year-old soldier with the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) band in Sunyani, Bono Region.
According to sources, the soldier was on his way back from his girlfriend’s house in Taifa to his home in Zongo-Laka in Ashaiman when the unfortunate incident occurred.
