Following a day of violence in Nairobi that resulted in the attack on a church and buildings attached to a mosque, religious leaders in Kenya have urged rival politicians to pursue peace.
Protests called by opposition leader Raila Odinga on Monday resulted in clashes with police. Former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s farm was targeted by looters.
Following the outbreaks of violence in Nairobi’s Kibera neighborhood, representatives of the Christian, Hindu, and Muslim faiths had a message for Kenya’s politicians.

They urged President William Ruto and Mr. Odinga to hold peace talks, and they urged all Kenyan politicians to prioritize their country.
The deep animosity between Mr. Ruto, Mr. Odinga, and Mr. Kenyatta is well known to be the root cause of the unrest.
Over the last two decades, their relations have shifted dramatically as numerous alliances have formed and disbanded.
If Kenyan politicians continue to fuel the violence, there is a real risk of significant unrest.
