Namibia beat Cameroon 2-1 on Tuesday, with Peter Shaluile scoring the game’s first goal. The win secures Namibia’s place in next year’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The PSL top scorer gave the Brave Warriors the lead in the 55th minute, the second time in four days that Shalulile has opened the scoring for Namibia against the Indomitable Lions.
On Friday, Olivier Kemen equalized to ensure a share of the spoils, but Namibia found another gear this time, and Absalom Iimbondi added a second for the Warriors with 11 minutes remaining in Johannesburg.
In the first minute of stoppage time, Vincent Aboubakar pulled one back for the visitors, but it was too little, too late for the 2017 African champions.
Cameroon failed to respond, leaving Namibia to celebrate a historic victory.
Shalulile’s latest goal was his third in three Nations Cup qualifying matches, putting him two goals behind Victor Osimhen and Sadio Mane in the scoring charts.
The forward has been in excellent form this season, and he currently leads the PSL scoring charts with 11 goals as the Brazilians cruise to an almost certain title.
Namibia now has five points after three games, and mathematically, neither Cameroon nor Burundi can catch them.
Disqualified Kenya is out, and with a better head-to-head record against the Lions, Namibia will beat Rigobert Song’s side if Burundi beats Namibia and draws with Cameroon.
Namibia will be making its fourth appearance at the continental showpiece, having been eliminated in the group stage in 2019 after losing all three of its group stage games.
Cameroon will have to wait until June for the next round of qualifiers when Burundi hosts Namibia.
