The family of Paul Rusesabagina, the man whose heroism inspired the film Hotel Rwanda, has spoken out about his arrival in the United States after spending more than two years in a Rwandan prison.
Mr. Rusesabagina, 68, arrived in San Antonio, Texas, on Wednesday afternoon after flying from Qatar.
“I’d like to thank everyone who worked so hard to bring him home.” “Our family is finally reunited today,” said his daughter Carine Kanimba, who spearheaded the campaign to free her father.
“We’re glad to have him back on US soil,” White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan was quoted as saying by the Associated Press.
Mr. Rusesabagina was released following talks brokered by Qatar. He was serving a 25-year sentence for terrorism.
