Quavo has confirmed to Insider that he will release a solo album titled “Rocket Power” this summer in memory of his late nephew and fellow Migos member, Takeoff.
Takeoff, real name Kirshnik Khari Ball, was shot and killed in November in Houston, Texas. He was 28 years old at the time.
Fans referred to the late rapper as “The Rocket,” and his only solo album, “The Last Rocket,” was released in 2018.
“I’m fueled by the rocket,” Quavo said of his previous solo album, “Quavo Huncho,” which was released in 2018.
The rapper, 32, did not provide an official release date for “Rocket Power.”
Since Takeoff’s death, Quavo has released three songs, “Without You,” “Greatness,” and “Honey Bun,” all of which are dedicated to him.
On Friday, Quavo released “Honey Bun” and its accompanying video under the hashtag “ForTake.”
“I don’t wanna hear no sorry for my loss,” Quavo raps on the track, referring to his Migos bandmate’s death.
Quavo also raps about the black mask he’s been wearing in his music videos and at shows since Takeoff’s death on “Honey Bun.”
“How can I go outside without a mask?” They want to see my emotions, but I’m not smiling,” he raps.
When asked about the mask that covers the right half of his face, Quavo explained to Insider, “It represents the loss of my other half.” When I perform, I want to demonstrate that he is always with me.”
It’s unknown if “Without You,” “Greatness,” or “Honey Bun” will appear on “Rocket Power.”
In the early hours of November 1, 2022, Takeoff was shot dead outside of a Houston bowling alley.
According to police, the shooting was the result of an argument over a “lucrative dice game” in which the rapper was not involved and was an “innocent bystander.”
Patrick Xavier Clark, 33, was charged with murder in connection with the death of Takeoff in December, while Cameron Joshua, 22, was charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon.
Clark was released from the Harris County jail in January after posting a $1 million bond, but he is still under house arrest.
