Demi Lovato has always been a sucker for emo music. Her passion for the genre has pushed her to change her sound.
“I grew up listening to this music, so I wanted to reconnect with my roots,” Lovato explained. “Whether you’re depressed or having a good time with your friends, there are so many emotions in this music.” “I believe this generation is eager for it.”
Lovato rose to prominence as a Disney Channel child star and has since gone on to become a successful musician with numerous hit songs including “Tell Me You Love Me,” “Skyscraper,” and “Cool For The Summer.”
“Holy Fvck,” her eighth studio album, deviates from her previous pop-oriented releases by leaning more toward the emo genre.
Lovato’s song “Still Alive” was featured on the soundtrack for the film “Scream VI.” The rock cover of her 2013 hit “Heart Attack” went viral, prompting her to re-record the song with a more angsty sound.

The album also features her unfiltered honesty about her mental health struggles, particularly on the track “Dancing with the Devil.”
“Whether it’s angst, falling in love, or sadness — there’s a song for everyone on here.” “I’ve always made music to be an inspiration to other people while also doing what I love,” Lovato explained.
She writes about her harrowing experience of nearly losing her life to a drug overdose when she was 25 years old in 2018, which she confronts in a YouTube Originals docu-series.
Lovato said the experience changed her life, which she expresses through her music.
“I’m in a great place right now.” “I’m not sure what I’m going to write about on my next album because I’m so happy,” she explained. “It’s a fantastic feeling.” But I’m not sure what I’m going to do.”
