According to Der Spiegel, Germany has halted a mission to evacuate approximately 150 citizens from Sudan due to fighting in the capital, Khartoum.
The Luftwaffe air force was said to have dispatched three planes for the mission early Wednesday. The planes had stopped in Greece to refuel.
Later, the plane was supposed to fly to Khartoum to evacuate dozens of German diplomats, federal police officers, and humanitarian workers.
The German military, however, reportedly called off the mission due to renewed clashes and airstrikes in Khartoum.
Japan and Kenya had also announced plans to evacuate their citizens, but the fighting in Sudan has caused those plans to be postponed.
