International humanitarian law has been violated by both sides in the conflict in Sudan, according to Volker Türk, the UN’s human rights chief.
Mr. Türk urged nations “with influence in Africa” to aid in putting an end to the violence as he opened the UN Human Rights Council’s emergency session in Geneva.
Both Omdurman and the capital city of Khartoum have seen ongoing fighting.
Witnesses in Khartoum reported air raids and anti-aircraft gun counterfire on Wednesday.
The conflict between army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and his former deputy Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, who is in charge of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), is entering its fourth week.
