Libya’s parliament in the east has voted to suspend Prime Minister Fathi Bashagha and replace him with Finance Minister Osama Hamada.
Mr. Bashagha was appointed last year but has yet to replace the rival interim prime minister of the UN-recognized government, Abdulhamid al-Ddeibah, who is based in Tripoli.
After national elections were postponed, Mr. Dbeidah’s mandate would expire in December 2021, according to the eastern parliament.
Since then, supporters of the two men have clashed, most notably when Mr. Bashagha attempted and failed to enter Tripoli in May of last year.
