Ja Morant made headlines again this past Saturday (May 13), but this time it wasn’t for his impressive basketball skills. During his friend’s Instagram Live video, the Memphis Grizzlies star was seen sitting in a car and flashing a gun. The video quickly went viral on social media, attracting the attention of NBA officials.
Many people have expressed their thoughts on what happened since the incident occurred. According to Rap-Up, social media users began to blame NBA YoungBoy’s music for Morant’s behavior because the athlete was jamming to his new music during the Live.
BlocBoy JB is the latest to speak out in support of the 23-year-old rapper. “Guns are not illegal,” he wrote yesterday (May 15) on his Instagram Story. “If he turned in his car with his gun in his yard and somebody recorded him, [that]ain’t on him.” Let Ja go.”

"I think Ja Morant is facing a lengthy, a significant suspension to start next season if indeed that was a firearm in his hand in that video. … I don't think Adam Silver is going to take this one lightly." pic.twitter.com/gCBhTIgep8

BlocBoy is originally from Memphis, where Morant has been a member of the Grizzlies since 2019. Today (May 16), the rapper reaffirmed his position and added to his remarks. “All I’m going to say is that the NBA has [something]against the hood. They want a n**ga to appear to be from Harvard. “There was no crime committed.”
Morant has been suspended from all team activities while the Grizzlies investigate the incident. Officials believe he will face a “substantial suspension.”
“I think Ja Morant is facing a lengthy, significant suspension to start next season, if indeed that was a firearm in his hand in that video,” NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski said on ESPN’s “Get Up” yesterday. “There will be some pressure from other NBA teams that this isn’t just bad for the Memphis Grizzlies, but bad for the entire league.” “I don’t think Adam Silver will take this lightly.”
