Nigerian authorities have prolonged the incarceration of afrobeat singer Seun Kuti, son of musical pioneer Fela Kuti, by four days.
According to local media, his arrest will be extended until May 22.
On Monday, he was arrested for allegedly punching a police officer.
Usman Alkali Baba, the police commander, had ordered his detention on Saturday, but Mr Kuti decided to surrender at the start of the week.
Kuti, 40, was “caught on video assaulting a police officer in uniform,” according to the police spokeswoman.
Prior to his arrest, Kuti stated on Twitter that the officer attempted to murder him and his family, but he did not elaborate.
