Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, a contender for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer position, has outlined his vision for a streamlined government in the event he assumes leadership in Ghana. Aiming for the 2024 general elections, Agyapong has revealed his intent to establish a government with fewer than 60 ministers. He underscores his commitment to rationalize ministerial roles by merging certain ministries. He points out the disproportionate number of ministers in Ghana in comparison to more populous developed countries like the United States and the United Kingdom.
When prompted about the number of ministerial appointments he envisions, Agyapong responded, “In fact, I haven’t finalized this aspect of my plans, but I am determined to keep the number of ministers below 60. Furthermore, I intend to merge specific ministries.”
A compelling perspective arises when considering countries like the United States with a population of 350 million, and the United Kingdom. Agyapong questions why Ghana hasn’t been able to align its ministerial framework similarly.
In a separate discussion, Mr. Logic, an entertainment pundit, voiced his belief that Kennedy Agyapong stands as the NPP’s strongest candidate for the 2024 elections. According to Mr. Logic, Agyapong exhibits a genuine concern for the nation’s well-being, a trait that resonates with the desires of Ghanaian citizens.

Mr. Logic emphasized, “Delegates instinctively recognize Ken as the NPP’s best choice. If Ken doesn’t secure victory in the primaries, the NPP risks defeat in the main elections. If NPP does not select Ken to face Mahama, they should brace themselves for dire consequences. The potential truth is that Ghana presently requires a president who genuinely prioritizes the welfare of its citizens.”
Addressing Agyapong’s proposal to task musicians with creating a patriotic song to promote national unity as his initial endeavor if elected president, Mr. Logic expressed appreciation for Agyapong’s recognition of the impact of music on societal attitudes. He affirmed, “Ken acknowledges the role of music in shaping societal perspectives and behaviors. When I consider his statements, I find his conviction profound. He clearly values the arts. His intention to rally musicians to create an uplifting song is significant, especially given the current state of confusion among the populace. Some might dismiss this notion as simplistic, but Agyapong’s sentiments carry depth.”
The NPP will whittle down the pool of 10 vetted candidates to five through a preliminary vote scheduled for August. Subsequently, the main contest will occur in November 2023 to determine President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s successor as the party’s leader.
