In Nigeria’s north-western state of Katsina, residents of a village find themselves in distress as armed men attacked a nearby military camp. The assailants, numbering more than 100, targeted the military base in the Batsari local government area of Katsina state, where soldiers, police, and other security forces are stationed.
During the attack on Sunday night, the gunmen, arriving on motorcycles and a truck, engaged in a three-hour exchange of gunfire, overwhelming the military forces. While the attackers managed to burn two army vehicles, there were no reported casualties among the soldiers, as per a military source.
After the assault on the military camp, the armed men proceeded to Nahuta, looting shops and homes in the area. The stolen goods and livestock, valued at millions of naira, have added to the turmoil caused by the attack.
The incident has sparked widespread panic among residents, prompting many to flee their homes and seek refuge in nearby villages. This unsettling event highlights the ongoing challenges posed by armed gangs, commonly referred to as bandits, who engage in kidnappings for ransom. Despite various military operations, these groups continue to wreak havoc across Nigeria, leading to loss of lives and heightened insecurity in the region.
