Edo State’s Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, has emphasized that he isn’t driven by desperation to clinch the governorship seat in the South-South state.
In recent developments, Shaibu emerged victorious in a parallel primary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo, held at his residence in Benin City, where he secured over three hundred and one votes.
In an interview on Channels Television, Shaibu reiterated his stance, asserting that he isn’t a politician driven by desperation for power. He highlighted that the motive behind the parallel primary was the flawed process of the official Edo PDP primary.
Shaibu emphasized his claim as the authentic PDP flagbearer in Edo, indicating that unless he represents the party, there might be a risk of not fielding a gubernatorial candidate in the upcoming election.
In extending an olive branch, Shaibu extended an invitation to his counterpart, Asue Ighodalo, to collaborate for the greater good.
He elaborated, “I won the election. I didn’t declare myself the winner…The Congress…was marred by irregularities…The PDP should be extremely careful with Edo… let us not get to a point where we may not even field a candidate in this election…I have sent a message to Ighodalo so he can join me because I am the authentic candidate and as we go on you will realize it.”
