Tems has unveiled the teaser for her upcoming album, Born in the Wild, set to be released in May 2024.
Fresh off her performance at Coachella, the Afrobeats sensation dropped a one-minute video on Monday, April 15, 2024, offering a glimpse into what fans can expect. The teaser features scenes of young children playing in the park, hinting at a thematic exploration of Tems’ journey from childhood to womanhood.
The video exudes nostalgia, portraying young Tems growing up in the suburbs of Lagos, with glimpses of her home life alongside her mother in the kitchen. Additionally, Tems samples a track titled “Born in the Wild,” potentially serving as the album’s centerpiece.
During her recent performance of “Essence” alongside Justin Bieber and Wizkid at Coachella, Tems also showcased an unreleased track from the upcoming album. This track samples the 1999 classic “Love Me Jeje” by Seyi Sodimu, evoking a sense of nostalgia among Nigerians who grew up in the ’90s.
The teaser and her performance at Coachella suggest that Born in the Wild will delve into Tems’ upbringing and the cultural influences that have shaped her. Notably, the album’s title bears a striking resemblance to “Born in Africa,” the title of Seyi Sodimu’s album featuring “Love Me Jeje.” This connection further underscores the album’s thematic focus on Tems’ roots and experiences.
