Geoffrey Kabutey Ocansey, the Executive Director of Revenue Mobilisation Africa, didn’t hold back his criticism of the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government regarding the ongoing intermittent power supply disruptions, commonly known in Ghana as dumsor.
Sharing his disappointment in a recent interview on Citi TV’s Breakfast Daily show, Ocansey pointed out the absence of a clear timetable for the power outages. He emphasized how this lack of clarity leaves citizens uncertain about when to expect electricity interruptions. Ocansey contrasted this with the previous administration under John Dramani Mahama, which, despite facing criticism from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), managed to provide a schedule for dumsor, allowing citizens to plan accordingly.
Ocansey’s comments were prompted by statements reportedly made by Kwadwo Nsafoah Poku, an energy policy expert and former NPP flagbearer hopeful, who suggested the difficulty in devising a timetable for the ongoing power cuts.

Expressing disbelief, Ocansey criticized Poku’s remarks, suggesting they demonstrated arrogance combined with ignorance. He stressed the importance of informed decision-making in handling critical issues like the energy crisis, emphasizing that policymaking should be guided by expertise, not baseless assertions.
Referring to a quote he shared on his Facebook page, Ocansey reiterated, “arrogance deeply planted in ignorance is a pathetic state.” He highlighted the irony of the situation, noting how an earlier administration managed to create a timetable despite criticism, while the current government struggles to do so.
There’s a growing sense of frustration among Ghanaians regarding the government’s approach to addressing the energy crisis, with calls for more effective and transparent measures to tackle the issue.
