Following a recent incident where one of Dana Air’s planes skidded off the runway at Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos, Minister of Aviation Festus Keyamo has taken action. He directed the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to suspend Dana Air and conduct a comprehensive audit of the airline’s safety protocols, maintenance procedures, and financial health.
The minister emphasized the necessity of ensuring safety and regulatory compliance in the aviation sector. In a letter to the NCAA Director-General, he stressed the importance of safeguarding the interests of citizens and travelers.
The recent incident highlighted the urgency of the situation, prompting swift action to be taken to address concerns and ensure the safety of all stakeholders involved.
Meanwhile, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) temporarily closed runway 18L/36R at Murtala Muhammed Airport following the incident. The runway was reopened after FAAN’s emergency response team cleared the aircraft from the site and conducted comprehensive cleaning operations to ensure flight safety.
FAAN expressed gratitude to the public, airline partners, and stakeholders for their cooperation during the temporary closure and apologized for any inconvenience caused. The agency reiterated its commitment to providing a safe and efficient air transport environment.
Dana Air confirmed that all passengers were safely disembarked with no injuries after the incident. The aircraft has been grounded pending further investigation by the maintenance team.
