The UK has enforced sanctions on Uganda’s parliamentary Speaker and two MPs over alleged corruption.
A statement disclosed that they had misappropriated funds from impoverished communities and would face travel restrictions and asset freezes.
According to the British Foreign Office, former ministers Mary Goretti Kitutu and Agnes Nandutu misappropriated thousands of metal roofing sheets intended for vulnerable communities in the Karamoja region.
The statement implicated Speaker Anita Among in the corruption scandal, who is also accused of misusing parliamentary funds.
Ms. Among dismissed the allegations as rumors, attributing them to her support for Uganda’s stringent anti-LGBT legislation.
