According to local media reports, four TikTok users have been charged with publishing false information after filming a staged robbery outside a police station in coastal Kenya.
The content creators were apprehended in Kilifi county after the video gained traction on social media platforms.
In the footage, an individual exits the Kilifi police station only to be robbed of their bag by two individuals on a motorcycle taxi, commonly known as “boda boda.”
Law enforcement stated that the TikTok users were identified and arrested based on CCTV footage.
During Thursday’s court hearing, it was revealed that the suspects, including a 17-year-old boy, uploaded the video on TikTok with the caption “robbers outside Kilifi police station.”
The accused pleaded not guilty and were granted bail set at $1,500 (£1,200), as per reports from the Nation news website.
The case is scheduled to resume on 30 July.
