Habeeb Okikiola, the Nigerian music artiste known as Portable, found himself spending the night behind bars after failing to fulfill the bail conditions required for his release. His arrest stemmed from his alleged failure to settle a N14 million debt incurred during the purchase of a G-Wagon from a car dealer in Lagos State.
Reports indicate that Portable, in acquiring the vehicle valued at N27 million, initially paid N13 million but neglected to pay the remaining N14 million, citing dissatisfaction with the vehicle’s condition.
Despite efforts to resolve the matter and numerous attempts to secure payment of the outstanding balance, the car dealer resorted to involving law enforcement.
Confirming the situation, a source disclosed to The Punch that Portable remains in police custody as of Wednesday, having been unable to meet the conditions for bail set upon his arrest the previous day.
According to Benjamin Hundeyin, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Portable spent the night in a police cell following his arrest. Hundeyin further stated that Portable has yet to provide a suitable surety, thereby prolonging his detention.
