Nigerian singer Tems recently shared her experience collaborating with the iconic Beyoncé on the 2022 album “Renaissance” in an interview with the New York Times.
Tems revealed that the collaboration started with an invitation to Los Angeles to work on the project. Before the sessions began, she signed a non-disclosure agreement to keep the collaboration under wraps. “My team just messaged me like, ‘Yo, first of all, I have to send you something to sign.’ I was losing my mind. Like, what?!” Tems recounted to Culture Reporter Reggie Ugwu.
The collaboration was fruitful, resulting in the track “Move,” featured on Beyoncé’s critically acclaimed and Grammy-nominated album “Renaissance.”
Beyoncé isn’t the only superstar Tems has worked with. She’s also collaborated with industry heavyweights like Drake, Rihanna, and Future. Notably, Tems and Drake both appeared on Future’s Grammy-winning song “Wait For U.”
The interview also delved into Tems’ own music. She talked about her upcoming debut album, “Born In The Wild,” set for release in June 2024. Interestingly, the lead single “Love Me Jeje” began as a spontaneous freestyle session with friends. “It was just a state of bliss. Those are the moments that I love,” Tems said about the creative process.
Tems recently performed on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” where she delivered a medley, blending her latest single with the opening track from her upcoming album.
The anticipation for Tems’ debut album is palpable. She described “Born In The Wild” as a deeply personal journey, reflecting her experiences and growth as an artist. Fans eagerly await the album’s release in June 2024, ready to embrace the music that has shaped Tems’ artistic identity.
