Eddie Hearn, the boxing promoter for Nigerian-born British heavyweight Anthony Joshua, has shared exciting news: Joshua is set to fight either Tyson Fury or Oleksandr Usyk next year. This matchup will depend on the outcome of the rematch between Fury and Usyk.
Before getting a shot at Fury or Usyk, Joshua must first defeat Daniel Dubois in September. Dubois, the current interim IBF heavyweight champion, earned his title by defeating the previously undefeated Filip Hrgovic.
Hearn confirmed ongoing discussions about Joshua’s upcoming bouts, emphasizing that the plan is for Joshua to face Dubois and then take on the winner of the Fury-Usyk rematch. Usyk, who became the undisputed heavyweight champion after defeating Fury in May, will have a rematch with Fury in December. By then, Joshua and Dubois will have already fought.
Hearn told the UK Sun, “I expect the winner of the December fight to face Anthony Joshua if he wins in September. There’s no decision yet on the opponent, but there are three or four in the mix. Regaining the world heavyweight title is the priority, and becoming undisputed has always been the dream. We’re two fights away from that goal, but we need to win them first.”
