LeBron James, the iconic star of the Los Angeles Lakers, has been chosen as the male flagbearer for Team USA at the opening ceremony of the upcoming Olympic Games.
At 39, LeBron was selected by his fellow American athletes for this prestigious role. The female flagbearer will be announced soon.
LeBron, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, is gearing up for his fourth Olympic appearance in Paris.
“It’s an incredible honor to represent the United States on this global stage, especially in a moment that can bring the whole world together,” LeBron shared.
“For a kid from Akron, this responsibility means everything to not only myself but to my family, all the kids in my hometown, my teammates, fellow Olympians, and so many people across the country with big aspirations.”
With four NBA championships and the title of the league’s all-time leading scorer, LeBron’s Olympic journey started with a bronze medal in Athens in 2004. He then clinched gold medals in Beijing in 2008 and London in 2012.
This Friday’s opening ceremony, set to take place on the River Seine, marks a historic first as it will be held outside the main stadium.
