Pep Guardiola Sets the Record Straight on Kevin de Bruyne’s Future
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has dismissed rumors that Kevin de Bruyne is leaving the club this summer. Speculation had been swirling that the 33-year-old Belgian midfielder was set to join a Saudi Pro League team.
Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano took to his official X account on Tuesday to relay Guardiola’s message: “Pep Guardiola has just confirmed that Kevin de Bruyne will NOT sign for Saudi Pro League this summer. ‘No, Kevin is NOT leaving,’ Pep says.”
Guardiola has addressed these viral claims, clarifying the situation and putting an end to the rumors.
A BBC report had suggested that De Bruyne was considering a move to Saudi Arabia, especially with just one year left on his contract with Manchester City. De Bruyne had mentioned last month that he would evaluate offers from the Saudi Pro League, acknowledging the “incredible money” being offered.
Despite this, Guardiola seems unfazed. Speaking before City’s pre-season match against Celtic in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, he reassured fans and reporters, “Kevin isn’t leaving.”
De Bruyne’s role in Manchester City’s recent Premier League title win was crucial, marking the club’s fourth consecutive championship and De Bruyne’s sixth overall with the team.
Meanwhile, Crystal Palace’s Ebereche Eze, who is part of England’s Euro 2024 squad, has attracted interest from City. Brazil’s goalkeeper Ederson has also been linked with a potential move to Saudi Arabia.
However, Guardiola remains confident in maintaining a squad similar to last season’s successful lineup.
