President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has declared Monday, August 5, 2024, a public holiday.
Interior Minister Henry Quartey announced the decision in a statement, explaining that this follows the recognition of Founders’ Day, a statutory public holiday, which falls on Sunday, August 4, 2024.
“Since Founders’ Day is on a Sunday this year, the President has issued an Executive Instrument (E.I) in line with Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act (Act 601), declaring Monday, August 5, 2024, as an additional public holiday,” the statement read.
The general public is advised to observe this holiday across the nation.
Founders’ Day honors the contributions of key figures, notably the “Big Six,” who played pivotal roles in Ghana’s independence struggle. This day was formerly celebrated as “Founder’s Day,” specifically recognizing the achievements of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
