Tems, the Nigerian singer who has taken the international music scene by storm, recently celebrated a major milestone by winning a Grammy Award. Known for her exceptional talent and numerous accolades, Tems has just dropped a highly anticipated music video for her song “Burning,” which is part of her debut album, Born In the Wild.
The release of the “Burning” video faced a delay due to widespread protests in Nigeria that began on August 1, 2024. These protests erupted in response to economic hardships and rising living costs following recent policy changes by President Bola Tinubu. Demonstrators across the country called for the reinstatement of fuel and electricity subsidies and urged the government to cut its own spending.
Despite the delay, Tems released the video for “Burning” on August 5, 2024. Filmed in New York City, the video features Tems strolling through the vibrant Times Square while performing her new track.
“Burning” is the third single from Tems’ album, which includes 18 tracks. Prior to this, she released “Me & U” and “Love Me Jeje,” the latter of which pays homage to a classic by Seyi Sodimu and Shaffy Bello.
Tems has also embarked on a world tour, showcasing her hits like “Free Mind” and “Higher” to enthusiastic audiences. Her success was further highlighted at the 2024 BET Awards, where “Me & U” won Best Gospel/Inspirational Song, marking her fourth BET Award to date.
