Team Ghana’s journey at the 2024 Paris Olympics ended on a sour note as they failed to secure any medals. The setback was largely due to the 4×100 relay team’s disqualification during Thursday’s race.
The relay team, consisting of Abdul-Rasheed Saminu, Ibrahim Fuseini, Benjamin Azamati, and Joe Paul Amoah, was competing in Heat 2 alongside teams from Jamaica, Canada, Germany, China, Liberia, Brazil, and France. Despite a strong start, they struggled with baton exchanges and finished sixth in their heat. The disqualification came after a review revealed a late baton change during the final leg of the race, which effectively ended their Olympic campaign.

Ghana’s Olympic hopes were dashed earlier as well. Swimmer Harry Stacey did not advance past the heats in the Men’s 100m Freestyle, finishing seventh in his debut appearance. Similarly, Joselle Alice Mensah fell just short of reaching the semi-finals in the Women’s 50m Freestyle, placing fourth with a time of 26.81 seconds.

High jumper Rose Amoanimaa Yeboah also faced disappointment. Despite a promising start by clearing 1.83m and 1.88m with ease, she was unable to clear the 1.92m bar and was eliminated.
In the 100m, both Azamati and Saminu reached the semi-finals but did not progress to the final round. This performance means Ghana will not add to its previous Olympic medal tally of five.
